Philosophy and Goals
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District BeeKeepers program goal is to ensure a program that is one of excellence and quality that enhances the education of the students, while providing a safe, healthy, enjoyable environment. BeeKeepers provide quality supervision, a sense of security, consistency, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights School Age Child Care (SACC) program is a tuition based program that is funded by the parents who utilize the services available to them throughout the year. The BeeKeepers program operates at no cost to the taxpayers of the district.
Program Overview
BeeKeepers is a school age child care program that is owned and operated by the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District. It is licensed by the Ohio Department of Education. BeeKeepers is designed to ensure a safe, healthy, enjoyable environment for the children. At the same time, it incorporates enrichment activities that enhance the district’s primary goal of educating the students. The child care program is paid for by the families who use the services and is of no cost to the taxpayer. BeeKeepers is designed to meet the school age child’s physical, social, and emotional needs. This program provides supervision, a sense of security, consistency, a caring environment, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.
BeeKeepers is located the Brecksville-Broadview Hts., Elementary School Building. The program is available to school aged children in kindergarten through eighth grade or 14 years of age, whichever comes first. The middle school program is also housed at the BBH Elementary School and does not have a before school program. Preschool students are not eligible to use the program’s services. The K-3 BeeKeepers programs use a thematic approach providing activities including indoor and outdoor play, puzzles and games, arts and crafts, and quiet areas for homework, enrichment worksheets, and reading. The 4- 8 BeeKeepers programs focus on homework, study, and recreational activities. If the programs are not full, space is available for drop-ins (students who do not use the program on a regular basis). Reservations and payments must be made in advance. Families not residing in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights area may use the Summer BeeKeepers Camp based on availability.
Operation Schedule
BeeKeepers operates year round and is available before school (K-5), after school (K-8), non-school days (NEOEA Day, Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Records Day, and Staff Development Day), winter vacation (excluding observed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day), spring break (excluding Good Friday), and summer vacation (excluding Indepence day and Juneteenth). The program is closed on all legal holidays, transition days, and calamity days including snow days and/or delays.
All enrolled families will receive a BeeKeepers Operation Schedule 22-23.pdf at the beginning of each school year.
VACATION CAMPS OFFERED
BeeKeepers will offer three (3) special camps each year. The camp hours are 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Each camp is geared to provide fun and exciting activities during extended school vacations. Art and crafts, sports, games, field trips, reading club and special movies are part of the camp experiences.
WINTER, SPRING, AND SUMMER VACATION CAMPS: Camps will be held at BBH Elementary School. Winter Camp which has some very nice sledding hill for the students to enjoy. The theme for this camp will be Holidays and Winter Sports. The days that Beekeepers will not be open during this vacation are; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day. Spring Camp which provides a nice area for our Egg Hunt. The theme for this camp will be Spring Fling and Nature. BeeKeepers will not be open on Good Friday. Summer Camp will be held at BBH Elementary School unless otherwise noted. Summer Camp is held during the summer vacation of the Brecksville-Broadview Hts. schools. The camp is offered to all students who have completed kindergarten through grade eight.The students will have a opportunity to explore and participate in the district communities as well as the greater Cleveland area through a variety of field trips and activities. Detailed information regarding this camp will be provided prior to Spring Break each year. Non-residents of Brecksville-Broadview Hts. are welcome to attend the Summer Camp provided there are openings available.
Sign-up sheets for winter and spring vacation camps are available one month before and removed one week prior to the camp. Families are responsible for payment if their child’s name is listed on the sign-up sheet when the sheets are removed from the respective locations. Staffing is based on the number that sign up for the day 1/18 child/teacher ratio and staffing expenses must be covered for those days.
NON-SCHOOL DAYS (Inservice/records days): These days will be held at BBH Elementary School. The students will enjoy a variety of physical and social activities throughout the day. Student will bring a sack lunch on these days and snacks will be provided by the program. Sign-up sheets are posted at each BeeKeepers location a month in advance and will be turned into the accounting office one week in advance of the date. Parents are responsible for paying for these days if their students name is not removed from this list prior to the deadline.
