Superintendent Update

Dear Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools Community,

The purpose of this email is to share that, effective immediately, the District will be cancelling all school-related evening activities, concerts, field trips, plays, performances, events and limiting community use of school facilities until March 30th. This includes the Middle School Band Concert scheduled for this evening, Thursday, March 12th, the High School Health and Wellness Fair scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, March 13th, the Middle School Musical on Saturday, March 21st and Sunday, March 22nd and the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 21st.  For the time being, BBHCSD athletic practices will continue, but all contests/games/matches will also be cancelled until March 30th. Please keep in mind that this cancellation timeframe may be extended, and reschedule dates are being collaboratively considered for some of these events above.

The decision to cancel these events and activities comes in light of Governor DeWine’s guidance to limit large gatherings of individuals, and while a number has not been specifically defined, we find this as an appropriate and proactive course of action, given the circumstances. As a reminder, classes are cancelled for Monday, March 16th while the District finalizes plans for future scenarios and engages in another thorough cleaning of its facilities.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools. District officials will continue to monitor information and share developments with the community through regular updates as soon as possible. For more information, please visit us online.

Thank you for your continued patience during this evolving situation.

HOBY Outstanding Sophomores Chosen

Jacob Didea, son of Ernie and Laura Didea of Broadview Heights, was selected to represent Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School at this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar.  The seminar will be held in the spring of 2020 at Youngstown State University.

The Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY) exists to help motivate, train, and reward future leaders by preparing them for leadership positions in their schools and by developing the talents that will serve them in the future.  Sophomore representatives from schools throughout Ohio will meet with a group of distinguished leaders in business, education, government and the professions.  Through informal discussions, question and answer, and give-and-take formats, the participants get a realistic look at what makes America great.  They learn as individuals that they are important and that their thoughts and actions can make a difference.

Jacob was selected from a group of seventy sophomores who were nominated for the honor by demonstrating a high level of leadership in school and extra-curricular activities, as well as activities outside of school.  A committee of staff members reviewed written responses to specific questions and personally interviewed six finalists to determine this year’s representative.  Special congratulations are extended to all of the students who chose to participate in the program.  Their leadership abilities are highly regarded and appreciated in our school community.

Jacob is a member of the Student Council, Key Club, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate Club, Chinese Club, HUDDLE, Band and Track Team.  He recently was awarded a scholarship for a two week trip to China through Cleveland State University.

Faith Hutchison, daughter of Dianne and Kirk Hutchison, of Brecksville was chosen as the alternate.  In addition, congratulations to four finalists, Anna RoderickAnna MehendaleAnn Matthew and Joshua Sobecks. All of these students exemplify qualities of “Bee Your Best”!

A special thank you is extended to the Brecksville Kiwanis Club who generously support this leadership seminar.
