National Gold Medalist Rianna Thomas

Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running, most prestigious, visual and literary arts competition for grades 7-12.  This year 350,000 works were first judged locally and then 18,000 of those moved on nationally.  Each work of art and writing is blindly adjudicated by panels of judges comprised of renowned artists, authors, educators and industry experts.

About 1,000 National Gold Medal winners were announced and Rianna Thomas, a senior,  was among them for her paper sculpture “Through the Wall”.  In addition, Thomas was one of 80 American Vision Award Medal winners.  There are 17 visual art categories and the American Vision award recognizes the best in show visual art piece across categories for each region participating in the competition.

Senior Addi Cave's Painting Chosen for The Governor's Youth Art Exhibition

Senior Addison Cave's acryllic, abstract figure painting was selected in the Top 25 artworks at the Governor's Youth Art Exhibiltion.  Her painting will be on display in Columbus.  From the 11,500 regional entries from the 15 regions, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 chosen to receive the Governor's Award of Excellence.
