Rising senior Savannah Koepke proudly represented BBHHS and the State of Ohio at the 2024 YMCA Youth Governor’s Conference from June 9th – 13th in Washington D.C. Savannah was elected to participate in the prestigious national program by her fellow peers at the Youth in Government state competition in March 2024. During her visit, Savannah had the opportunity to interact and develop leadership skills with other Youth Governors from across the country. Savannah also met and listened to a series of accomplished speakers, including Suzanne McCormick, President and CEO of the YMCA, and Jeffrey M. Hovenier, U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo. The rising senior also participated in several service-oriented endeavors which included preparing meals for senior citizens at the Washington D.C. Food Bank.
The Youth & Government chapter at BBHHS is advised by Nathan Elliott and provides students with opportunities for leadership development and a forum to gain an understanding of Ohio state government. Members of the Youth & Government club participated in an annual competition at the Ohio Statehouse in March 2024. The event brought together participants from across the state for an immersive mock legislative experience that provided students the opportunity to draft and submit legislation for passage by the student body. In recognition of her strong showing, Savannah’s peers elected her to serve as governor of next year’s competition.
