Highland Drive Elementary joined a select group of fifty-area schools to participate in the Be Kind Stick Together program on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Sponsored by Project Love and Duck Tape®, Be Kind Stick Together is a free character education program that provides students a fun and creative way to learn about the importance of showing kindness and “sticking together” against bullying. All materials for the program were provided to Highland and were used by teachers during a forty-five-minute presentation conducted with every grade level in the school gym. Each presentation began with a discussion about the definition of kindness and how it makes students feel when others demonstrate kindness towards them. Students then watched a short video and discussed the various acts of kindness displayed and how they form a ‘kindness chain.’ Teachers then led the students in reciting the Duck Tape® pledge stating their commitment to be kind and “stick together” against bullying. The program also asked students to write a short paragraph describing one way they could make their school a kinder place. To conclude each session, students and staff wrote their names on strips of Duck Tape® and placed it on a banner to be displayed near the main entrance. Great job by the students and staff at Highland Elementary for their commitment to promoting kindness!
