Highland Drive Elementary Students ‘Cook Up’ Quality Paragraphs

Students at Highland Drive Elementary School participated in an interesting lesson about ‘cooking up’ quality written paragraphs, using what is called the hamburger model for guidance. Mrs. Boczulak provided each student with their very own chef hat and apron, to help inspire our learners and have some fun along the way.  Prior to this lesson, students reviewed some of the reasons to write, and different ways to write.  Students were reminded that a writer writes and that readers read what was written.  In order for the reader to understand what was written, sentences and thoughts need to be organized.  A paragraph helps us to do that! And, in order to ‘cook up’ good paragraphs, students needed proper attire including the hats and aprons. Writing rubrics were used to assess students’ work, and writing goals were established as well. Congratulations to the Highland Drive Elementary team, and Mrs. Boczulak, for sharing valuable writing standards and skills while making the lesson fun and memorable for students!
