High School Math Instructor Visits Southeast Asian Countries and Tours Schools Abroad
Elena Acciardo

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Math Instructor, Elena Acciardo, visited schools in the countries of Cambodia and Vietnam this past summer, and had the opportunity to help review students’ work in their classrooms. As part of her personal endeavor to visit at least two new countries each year, Mrs. Acciardo always gravitates to the schools during her visits, since she believes that students represent the very essence of culture and heart of every nation. Traveling up and down the Mekong River Delta region, Mrs. Acciardo visited small towns and villages along the way. Upon entering the mostly elementary and middle schools that she visited, Mrs. Acciardo was impressed with the mathematics skills of the country’s youngest students, confirming her belief that math can be a universal form of communications. She claims that students were equally fascinated learning about the Americans who were visiting them as well. Mrs. Acciardo was also intrigued to learn that students go to school four hours each day through six days a week, and all children wear uniforms. She encourages her own students and others to spend time in other countries to learn about their respective cultures. Thank you for sharing your interesting educational experiences with the school family of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools.
