Review of 6th Grade Students' Use of Chromebooks

The goal of the one-to-one technology program is to allow students to better access information, complete assignments and collaborate with peers using the same type of device. Teachers continued to lead the educational process and present the curriculum.  Throughout the school year, feedback was positive from students, staff and parents. However, to quantify the results, a survey was developed for sixth grade students and their parents/guardians and administered in April.

The results of the survey were overwhelmingly positive. While there are always lessons to be learned and areas for improvement, families are generally enthusiastic about the initiative. Key findings from respondents are:

   The program has made learning more fun and more interesting.

   Students have become more independent learners.

• Students better understand course content.

   Learning is more personalized.

             •   Students have improved their technology and digital communication skills.


An additional bonus to this program is that it is a cost neutral initiative for the district. Rather than replacing aging classroom computers, the same budgeted dollars are being used for the 6th grade Chromebooks. Full survey results are available for further review.
