Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School has earned one of the highest honors in all of education throughout the nation, in being recently named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. Announced by the U.S. Secretary of Education, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School becomes 1 of just 356 schools nationwide, to earn the prestigious recognition based upon excellence in academic performance and significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups. In a release posted by the Department of Education, as a National Blue Ribbon School, BBHHS is looked to as being “a model for effective teaching and collaboration in their communities…and are led by leaders who articulate a clear vision for instructional excellence and uphold high standards.” In addition, BBHHS was highlighted for what the U.S. Department of Education affirms as effective teaching methods and robust professional development for their staff. Data-driven instruction is a hallmark, and there is a concerted effort to ensure every student succeeds. Collaboration among families, communities, and educators is a key component of their success. Those schools who are nominated each year go through a rigorous application process and are evaluated based upon their high performing scores and exemplary achievement gap closing schools.
For earning this highest recognition, leaders from BBHHS and district administrators will travel to Washington, D.C. in November to formally accept this award on a national stage. The district will share more information and pictures from that event. Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School was also awarded a Blue Ribbon School in 2008 and joins the Middle School who earned the honor in 2018, and Highland Elementary School, who earned this recognition in 2002, as National Blue Ribbon Winners in our district.
