Students in Grade 2 will begin taking the Math and English Language Arts IOWA Assessments and The CogAT Assessment within the next few weeks.  
 
The IOWA Assessments will be administered the week of February 22nd. The IOWA Assessments are achievement tests that assess students' skills in Reading, Language, and Mathematics. The tests assess both foundational and higher-order thinking skills.
 
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) will be administered the week of March 15th. The CogAT is a group-administered standardized test that appraises each students’ verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal cognitive development. The CogAt is an assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions.
 
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District uses these assessments as guidance for placement into enriched courses in language arts and math at the elementary level. Please keep in mind that all students will have the opportunity to take the IOWA assessment again in fifth grade.
