A variety of recent initiatives and events that have taken place over the last week or so at Chippewa have focused a heightened attention on student health and wellness. In partnership with Heinen’s Grocery Store, representatives paid a recent visit from their Brecksville location to talk with students about nutrition and healthy foods they can and should be eating. Each grade level participated, signifying a building-wide emphasis on wellness for the students. Chippewa sends its ‘special thanks’ to the Heinen’s team for donating their time and resources. In addition, at the building’s “Don’t Worry, Be Healthy” assembly, which was organized by the Chippewa PSO, a supplemental focus was given to proper health and wellness each and every day of the week. Forms were sent home with students and completed, that inquired about healthy eating habits, what type of physical exercise the students participate in and other wellness items. Completed wellness forms were included in daily raffles to award prizes to students in each grade. Another round of ‘special thanks’ is given to Mr. Joe, who performed at the assembly for students as well.

Finally, the discussion about health and wellness turned into action at the PSO Bike Rodeo, where students recently brought their bikes and helmets to Chippewa to participate in a variety of activities. Organizing on the back playground, bike safety checks took place, students were fitted for helmets which were donated by MetroHealth, and maneuverability courses kept more than 100 students engaged throughout the course of the day. Special thank you to Bike Brecksville as well. These recent events are keeping health and wellness at the forefront for students, as a means to improve awareness and continually enhance their performance in the classroom. Thank you to everyone involved!
