Hilton Elementary Recognizes “Bee Bucks” Contest Winners

Principal David Martin with students

Shortly before the end of the school day on Friday, September 1, 2017, Hilton Elementary Principal David Martin recognized one student from each grade level for providing the closest estimate to the total number of “Bee Bucks” awarded to students during the 2016-17 school year.  Students are awarded “Bee Bucks” when they are seen being Responsible, Respectful, Reading to Learn and “Bee-ing” the Difference at school.  Approximately 19,774 “Bee Bucks” were awarded to Hilton students during the 2016-2017 school year!  For the contest, the “Bee Bucks” were organized into twenty-four stacks, wrapped in clear plastic wrap and placed on a table outside the main office.  Each stack except for one contained approximately 800 “Bee Bucks.”  Students were given the opportunity to examine the stacks and estimate the correct number of Bee Bucks awarded last year.

The winners were announced over the PA system and invited to come down to Principal Martin’s office to receive their prizes, which included a certificate, two books of their choice, two items from Principal Martin’s store and a $10 Target Gift Card.  All prizes were generously donated by the Hilton PSO, Media Center and Principal Martin. Congratulations to Iriadessa Reid (Kindergarten), Ellis Stoner (1st Grade), Stella McCrodden (2nd Grade) and Jack Knestrick (3rd Grade) for providing the closest estimate for their grade level!  The fun, STEM based activity is held at the beginning of each school year by Principal Martin, and is a great way to kick-off the new school year and encourage students to do their best to earn as many “Bee Bucks” as possible.  Way to go Hilton Elementary!
