Brecksville High School Teacher Spends Summers Engaged in Learning

BBHHS Teacher Sean Brennan
Veteran Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School American Government teacher, Sean Brennan, has taken his summer break time over the past few years and valuably used it to learn from some of the very best instructors in the nation to help him improve in his profession. In that time, Brennan has studied at the University of Oxford in England, George Washington University, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, James Madison’s Montpelier, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, and other distinguished places. He feels that learning from such educated instructors at these actual historic properties gives him extra learning opportunities. As part of programs that generally include multi-day intensive scholarly workshops, Brennan performs extensive reading to prepare, oftentimes primary sources or actual letters penned by our Founding Fathers.  Mr. Brennan’s work seems to be paying off for his students, as revealed by their very high scores on the state of Ohio’s American Government End of Course Exam (EOC).  All of his students consistently show tremendous growth as a result of being in his class.  This is especially impressive given that the American Government course in most schools is a year-long course, whereas at BBHHS it is a semester in length.  “I strive to bring history and government alive for my students,” Brennan explains.  Steve Ast, Principal of BBHHS, comments that, “Mr. Brennan is an outstanding teacher and he demonstrates an amazing extended professional commitment.  He is very driven to learn and improve his craft, so that he can better serve his students during the school year.  Our community is very lucky to have him teaching our students. Brennan not only teaches government, but does it, as he has also served on Parma City Council for over 14 years, currently as President of Council.  The BBHCSD congratulates Mr. Brennan on his commitment to extra professional development in such a constructive and dedicated fashion.
