One School, One Book Program Celebrates Joy of Reading
BBHES families, students, and staff in grades K-2 recently came together to celebrate the joy of reading with an unforgettable One School, One Book celebration! The program brought the entire school community together through a shared reading experience of the book, A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold. On March 31st, the selected book was announced, and each student received a copy to read and enjoy with their family at home. In addition, families were provided with a reading schedule to help them follow along. Over the next several weeks, students participated in classroom reading and discussions about the story.
As a fun culminating activity sponsored by the One School, One Book Committee and BBHES PSO, K-2 students enjoyed an interactive and engaging assembly featuring Jungle Terry! Students and staff had a blast meeting and learned about various animals, including a turtle, hedgehog, and other interesting wildlife. The presentation also displayed several snakes, including a python which teacher volunteers held to the cheers and delight of the students. At the conclusion of each assembly, students were able to briefly pet the large python as they headed back to their respective classrooms.
The One School, One Book program concluded with “Dress Like a Skunk Day,” during which students had the opportunity to wear black and white clothing and draw their own picture of a skunk! A special thank you to the One School, One Book Committee and BBHES PSO for their support. Finally, thank you to all K-2 families for sharing this special journey and celebration of reading!
