Libraries at Seneca

Libraries at Seneca

Our Little Free Libraries are in the ground!

Highland Drive has erected three Little Free Libraries in the Seneca Apt. Complex on Royalton Road in Broadview Heights.  The libraries have been placed in memory of Mrs. Sharon Wiesler, a teacher at Highland Drive who passed away last school year.  Mrs. Wiesler had a passion for teaching children to read and to become better citizens.  She believed these Little Free Libraries would help serve that purpose.  In her memory, Highland worked to collect hundreds of books that will be made available for free in the Little Free Libraries regularly.

Big thanks to the Highland Drive PSO, the Beebe Family MacRaild Family, & Drevenkar Family, Miss Kolis, KDG Construction, JM Design Build, the Seneca Apt. Complex, and those in our Highland Drive community who donated books!

There will be a small dedication ceremony held Monday, October 22, at 5:00 PM. located at 1501 Summit Blvd. at the Seneca Apartments.

Mr. Wasil as Pinkalicious

Mrs. Adam's and Mr. Bihari's class won the contest of classes that brought back all their library books together as a class on a consistent basis. So they wanted Mr. Wasil to dress up as a prnicess.

Today at Highland, the third-grade Makers' Club got a visit from members of the WORLD CHAMPION ROBOTICS TEAM from our BBH High School.  Wow!  How awesome!  It was so nice to hear the high school students talk to our third graders about the value of teamwork, coding, and making!

Thanks to Michael, Jackson, Luke, and Lindsay for letting us drive the 'bot! Picture are below.

STEM Challenge 3rd Grade

In lieu of the field trip that we had planned for our third graders to go to CWRU, professor and Executive Director of the Gelfand STEM Center, Jim Bader, came to visit us!  Mr. Bader brought a STEM Challenge to all of our third-grade students and teachers.  Each class had a chance to work in pairs or groups to build hurricane/tornado-proof houses with specific materials.  Once building was done, each group had a chance to "test" their house against the wind.  Check out the photos to see how it went!  A HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Bader for coming and to the third-grade teachers and Mr. Harrison, our STEM Coach, for helping.

Wind Chill Day Workers Spotted

The following incredible 3rd graders were spotted working hard over the past two frigid days. Below zero wind chills may have kept them from the classroom and playing outside, but it couldn't stop them from improving their brain power. Way to go Mrs. Adam's 3rd graders. Pictures are below.

Thank You

Our Smencil Sale was a huge success!  Thank you to all the students and parents who helped our fundraising efforts!  We sold just shy of 1,000 smencils! In addition to a $300 donation to the Ronald McDonald House, we used the funds to make apple cinnamon ornaments that were given to community members, popsicle stick ornaments that were given to  family and friends, we made reindeer food bags that were given to our Highland Drive peers, created Cheerio bird feeders to hang around our building, and bought food for our school ducks.

We couldn’t have been able to spread our kindness to so many without your help!

Thanks again for all your support!
