Over the holiday season, tens of thousands of Northeast Ohioans had the opportunity to enjoy, a traditional outdoor German Christmas market, known as a Christkindlmarkt, thanks to the coordinating efforts of Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School German instructor Jeff Moore.  The free event was held from Friday, December 14 through Sunday, December 16th at the Hudson Green and was attended by an estimated 14,000 people!  Mr. Moore helped to coordinate the festivities through a leadership role with the Hudson-Landsberg Sister City organization, which promotes the City of Hudson’s sister-city relationship with Landsberg am Lech, Germany.  More than twenty-four vendors from Ohio and Pennsylvania offered hand-blown ornaments, greenery and wooden toys for sale, in addition to German foods such as potato pancakes, strudel and roasted nuts.  Guests also enjoyed entertainment from the Chardon Polka Band, a German-American brass band and the Great Lakes National Puppet Theater of Cleveland.  Student members of the National German Honor Societies at Brecksville Broadview Heights High School and Hudson High School volunteered to collect donations, deliver coffee and snacks to vendors and even helped staff some of the booths for a short time to give vendors a break.

Due to the phenomenal success of the first annual Christkindlmarkt, Mr. Moore and the Hudson-Landsberg Sister City organization is planning on expanding the number of products, vendors and musicians from Germany for next year’s celebration.  The BBHCSD congratulates Jeff Moore for his efforts in promoting a wonderful and festive cultural experience for Northeast Ohioans!
