Highland Drive staff, students and families celebrated the legacy of Mrs. Sharon Wiesler, a Highland Reading Specialist who passed away unexpectedly last school year, with a special dedication ceremony of the Highland Drive Little Free Libraries at Seneca Apartments in Broadview Heights on Monday, October 22, 2018. Family members of Mrs. Wiesler were also in attendance at the ceremony which provided a fitting tribute to her strong dedication to promoting literacy and a love of reading. Efforts to fulfill Mrs. Wiesler’s vision of installing Little Free Libraries at Seneca Apartments began last school year through a collaborative effort between Highland Drive Principal Eva O’Mara, Reading Specialist Miss Morgan Kolis and members of the Highland Drive PSO. Highland Drive families graciously donated hundreds of books while local contractor JM Build Design purchased and donated three Little Free Libraries. Over the summer, Miss Kolis painted and stained each of the structures in preparation for installation during the upcoming school year. Through donations of materials and manpower, including a rented auger donated by KDG Construction, the Beebe, MacRaild and Drvenkar families installed the Little Free Libraries around the apartment complex. The Little Free Libraries have been a huge hit with children living at Seneca Apartments, providing them free access to a wide-variety of books year-round. The BBHCSD would like to thank the staff, students and families of Highland Drive Elementary and various community partners for their contributions in honoring the legacy of Mrs. Sharon Wiesler.
