Health and Safety Week Activities Provide Engaging Learning Opportunities for Highland Students
Heinen's Wellness Department

Highland Drive Elementary celebrated its annual Health and Safety Week with a wide variety of programs centered on promoting personal health, wellness and safety during the week of September 17 – 21st.  Students visited the Highland Island courtyard area during their lunch/recess to participate in fun activities and learn from a different presenter each day of the week.  Representatives from Heinen’s Wellness Department provided delicious, healthy snack options for students to sample.  The Cleveland Metroparks Brecksville Nature Center delivered a hands-on presentation on outdoor safety to help students learn more about wild animals and plants they may encounter while exploring the area’s many trails and wooded areas.  Members of the Brecksville Police Department along with BBHHS members of H.U.D.D.L.E. helped students learn about important safety issues, including drug and alcohol prevention and what information to provide during a 911 call.  To help promote physical fitness and relaxation, Jen Griest Hayes from Afterlight Fitness taught students a variety of yoga poses, while Functions of Life enabled students to participate in an American Ninja Warrior training session.  Thank you to the Highland Drive PSO for helping to bring informative and exciting learning opportunities to our students.
