Middle School Teacher Maria Schneider Recognized by Cleveland Browns

Maria Schneider, a Physical Education teacher at Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School, was recently recognized by the Cleveland Browns for demonstrating a strong commitment to her students, school and community through the NFL’s Play60 program, as well as for leading a school-wide effort to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. On Sunday, October 1st, Maria was honored as the First and Ten Coin Toss Champion at Browns v. Bengals game, joining the player captains from both teams on the field for the coin toss. As an advisor for Play60, an NFL initiative which seeks to encourage children to be physically active for 60-minutes each day, Maria helps students complete various wellness programs and contests to earn their way to the National Fuel Up to Play Leadership Summit each year. Currently, she is working with fellow teachers from the STEM program to build a bike that will generate enough electricity to make smoothies for students to enjoy as a healthy morning snack! Raising awareness and funding for pediatric cancer research is another cause that Maria champions. For the past nine years, Maria has organized a kickball game for Middle School students and teachers on the last day of school, which has raised over $250,000 to help support childhood cancer patients. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Schools thanks Maria Schneider for demonstrating a consistent and passionate commitment to our students, district and community.
