HOBY Outstanding Sophomores Chosen

Jacob Didea, son of Ernie and Laura Didea of Broadview Heights, was selected to represent Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School at this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Seminar.  The seminar will be held in the spring of 2020 at Youngstown State University.

The Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation (HOBY) exists to help motivate, train, and reward future leaders by preparing them for leadership positions in their schools and by developing the talents that will serve them in the future.  Sophomore representatives from schools throughout Ohio will meet with a group of distinguished leaders in business, education, government and the professions.  Through informal discussions, question and answer, and give-and-take formats, the participants get a realistic look at what makes America great.  They learn as individuals that they are important and that their thoughts and actions can make a difference.

Jacob was selected from a group of seventy sophomores who were nominated for the honor by demonstrating a high level of leadership in school and extra-curricular activities, as well as activities outside of school.  A committee of staff members reviewed written responses to specific questions and personally interviewed six finalists to determine this year’s representative.  Special congratulations are extended to all of the students who chose to participate in the program.  Their leadership abilities are highly regarded and appreciated in our school community.

Jacob is a member of the Student Council, Key Club, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate Club, Chinese Club, HUDDLE, Band and Track Team.  He recently was awarded a scholarship for a two week trip to China through Cleveland State University.

Faith Hutchison, daughter of Dianne and Kirk Hutchison, of Brecksville was chosen as the alternate.  In addition, congratulations to four finalists, Anna RoderickAnna MehendaleAnn Matthew and Joshua Sobecks. All of these students exemplify qualities of “Bee Your Best”!

A special thank you is extended to the Brecksville Kiwanis Club who generously support this leadership seminar.
