Central and Highland Drive Students Participate in Healthy Schools Breakfast Challenge
Victoria Koepke

Central and Highland Drive students recently participated in the Healthy Schools Breakfast Challenge, a fun way to promote the importance of eating a complete breakfast every day.  Students who “started their day the healthy way” by purchasing a breakfast item daily during the week of May 7th – 11th were entered into a raffle to win a brand-new bike.  Congratulations to 1st grader Victoria Koepke and 4th grader Dylan Kollin on winning the Healthy Breakfast Challenge bike raffle!  Cindy Finohr, Registered Dietitian for the District's Food Service Department, received the bikes through Cool School Café, as part of the wellness program for the BBHCSD.

Central and Highland Drive provide students a grab-and-go breakfast program for $1.75 every morning.  The breakfast program was made possible through a grant awarded by the US Department of Agriculture in the fall of 2016.  The primary purpose of providing breakfast to students is to positively impact classroom learning.  Mrs. Finohr shared that “studies show that students who eat a complete breakfast demonstrate improved concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory and learning.”  Thank you to the Nutrition team for providing our students the opportunity to start each day with a complete breakfast.
