BBHHS Robotics Team Helps Grant Special Wish to Izzy Caminero
A Special Wish for Izzy Caminero

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Robotics Team 2011 are not only recently crowned world champions, but heroes in the eyes of Izzy Caminero, a local nine-year old Robotics enthusiast battling cancer.  Through a partnership with the Cleveland Chapter of A Special Wish Foundation Inc., the BBHHS Robotics Team 2011 helped to make Izzy’s dream of interacting with a local robotics team a reality on Monday, May 13, 2019.  To start the experience, the Caminero Family traveled by limo bus, courtesy of Platinum Party Bus, to enjoy some delicious Honey Hut Ice Cream with members of the BBHHS World Championship Robotics Team.  Upon arrival at the High School, Izzy received a ‘heroes welcome’ by members of the BBHHS band, sport clubs and other groups.  After making their way down to the Robotics Room, Izzy and his younger brother, Elias, were coached by members of the Robotics team on how to operate the competition robots on a raised platform.  Members of the Southwest Enforcement Bureau Bomb Squad then led the Caminero brothers in conducting several simulated real-life scenarios, which included operating a robot to defuse a mysterious package, flying a drone and working with the SWAT team to locate and capture a “suspect” hiding in an adjacent room.
After enjoying a delicious catered dinner from Jersey Mike’s and Gionino’s Pizzeria, Izzy competed in a winner-takes-all Robotics match, before becoming an honorary member of the BBHHS Robotics Team.  Local news media were on-hand to capture all of the excitement and memorable activities.  The BBHCSD would like to thank the BBHHS Robotics Team 2011, A Special Wish Foundation, local law enforcement agencies and community businesses for their coordination and generosity in providing an unforgettable experience for Izzy Caminero and his family!
