Central School Project About Helping Others Prompts Personal Acts of Charity

Emanating from a school project that promoted ‘making the world a better place,’ two Central School fifth graders, Elaysia Hill and Jadyn Brooks, received some recent media attention for their personal fundraising efforts to bring about change. You can watch the short story, featured on Fox-8 News Cleveland, by clicking here. The two originally planned on supplying a cup of lemonade to anyone who donated some pocket change, with all proceeds going to benefit hurricane victims. Once the temperatures dropped, their efforts pivoted to giving away hot chocolate. The school project was called “A Better Place Project,” where students were challenged to help improve the world in some way. The girls’ decision was to help others severely impacted by the recent hurricanes by asking people for monetary donations in a neighborhood near their home. Way to go, girls! Congratulations on taking our classroom lessons into the real world, in order to affect positive change.
