Guest Speaker Corey Jones Kicks Off Middle School’s #ChooseKindness Campaign

Corey Jones

Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School welcomed motivational speaker Corey Jones to help kick-off its #ChooseKindness campaign in the school gym on Friday, October 6th. Using humor, basketball skills and anecdotes from his time playing with LeBron James at Akron’s St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Corey spoke with students in grades 6-8 about reaching their potential, making positive choices, and not allowing fear to prevent them from making a difference. Corey’s appearance was made possible by the Community Awareness and Prevention Association (CAPA), a local non-profit composed of parents, school and law enforcement personnel, and community members. To show their support for the #ChooseKindness campaign, students were encouraged to wear bright-colored shirts to the assembly, and provided the opportunity to sign their name or write a short message on a banner located in the cafeteria. Created by Middle School Counselors Claire Gonter and Nicole Lenczewski, the purpose of the #ChooseKindness campaign is to promote the message that kindness and positive choices start with ourselves. The year-long initiative will involve the entire student body and staff, as well as parents and community members taking part in various activities to promote the campaign’s positive message. Stay tuned for future updates from the #ChooseKindness campaign at the Middle School.
