Another grant opportunity through the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Schools Foundation.  The Bob and Susan Sarka Memorial fund was created in 2001 by Julie Sarka in memory of her husband Bob and daughter Susan.  This grant requires you to think outside the box and come up with an educational experience that will have an impact on many students.  Please read through the grant guidelines thoroughly and use your creativity to develop a proposal.  Multiple proposals may be awarded, but not to exceed the available funding.  The deadline for submission is September 24, 2010

If you would like to touch the lives of thousands of students in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District, consider becoming a member of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Schools Foundation.  There are various levels of membership.  Fill out the membership form and send in with your check today.

Community leaders formed the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Schools Foundation in 1993 as a way to provide programs to enrich the educational experiences of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools' students. The Schools Foundation accomplishes this goal by:

  • Offering special classroom experiences not normally provided by the School Board.
  • Expanding recognition of student achievement through scholarships.
  • Encouraging teacher creativity in classroom teaching with special program grants.
  • Involving the community in the support of our schools.

The foundation is directed by a volunteer board of trustees made up of community members and educators. It was formed under the authority of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District's Board of Education. The Foundation is incorporated under Ohio law as a non-profit organization and is a tax-exempt charitable organization under the Internal Revenue Code.

Operation

Memberships, donations, endowments and fund raising are the main sources of financial support for the Foundation.

Donations can be unrestricted or placed in the endowment fund. An unrestricted gift can be put to work quickly for grants and scholarships. Gifts specified for endowments will be invested for prudent, long-term growth, and only the accumulated earnings can be awarded. The initial endowment contribution will remain untouched to earn dividends for the life of the Foundation.

Memorial Funds

A Memorial Fund can be established as a tribute to a loved one, or to honor a special person. It can also be designated for a special educational interest or purpose.

The money contributed to the fund can never be spent. Only the earnings can be allocated to the designated purpose of the fund. A memorial fund can be established with a contribution of $5,000 or more. You can have up to five years to reach the required contribution level. Relatives and friends can contribute to the fund instead of sending flowers, which will be counted as part of the minimum contribution.
