Central School News

Central students and staff recently took part in a fund raising effort to collect spare change for Kayla Allen, a Strongsville girl who was terribly injured and hospitalized following a family tragedy.  Fourth grader Gabby Brinkhoff was a close personal friend of Kayla and she and her family spearheaded the effort.  We are pleased to announce that a donation in the amount of $1723.67 was given to the Kayla Allen Benefit Fund.  Big thanks to all who took part in this worthy effort as well as the Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union for sorting and counting the hundreds of pounds of coins for us.

Sadly, Kayla passed away during our collection, but the funds will be used to offset the cost of medical bills and the memorial service that was held. Our thoughts go out to Kayla’s family and friends.

If you have a 3rd grade student coming to Central next year and missed the 3rd Grade Parent Orientation meeting, please click here to see Mr. Hartland's PowerPoint presentation.

Now that spring has sprung and nicer weather has arrived, it is important that students and families follow school procedures regarding walking home from Central.  Per our family handbook, “Students walking home from school must have a walking pass.  They receive the pass when the office receives a note from the parent giving permission.”  If requesting a walking pass, please give the specific date and place that the students will be walking to so that we can properly dismiss the students.  Students attempting to walk home without a pass will be placed on their assigned bus. Students who live in the immediate neighborhood who walk home on a regular basis do not need a walking pass.

Through Professional Learning Communities our teachers are working to help all students gain the skills and knowledge they need to meet and exceed educational standards and to achieve their full potential. In PLCs across grade levels and content areas, our teachers and administrators are engaging in a carefully designed culture of collaborative problem solving and instructional planning about what is working with students and what is not. We ask our teachers to share student performance data so they can transform information gained into knowledge; knowledge about how to better design instructional strategies. PLC time allows time for staff to get together to discuss, "What do students know? What do students not know? and What are we going to do about it?" These questions become focus for how to improve. If BBHCSD teachers are going to achieve increased long-term impact on student performance and achievement, they must be given opportunity to change the way they work. We are working to build the capacity of teacher teams by providing dedicated time for them to reflect on their work and to make ongoing instructional adjustments based on their analysis of student performance. PLCs are helping our teachers and administrators utilize data to gain knowledge necessary to inspire every student to fullfill their academic, ethical and civic potential.
