BBHHS named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School

BBHHS is one of only 320 schools nationwide and one of only 55 public high schools to earn this recognition.

High School Principal Brian Wilch is proud to announce that after a lengthy application process, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School.

U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today named 320 schools as 2008 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools. The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools award distinguishes and honors schools for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap. "Excellent with Distinction"

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District has once again - for the ninth consecutive year - earned the highest rating on the Ohio Department of Education’s Local Report Card. Additionally, due to the district’s scores and academic growth rate in student achievement on the Ohio Achievement Tests and the Ohio Graduation Tests, the district earned the newest and now highest rating of “Excellent with Distinction.”

The Board of Education and the administration thank the students and staff for their hard work, as well as parents and other community members for their continued support of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools. Without that support, our students would not be able to achieve at such a high level.

"Schools of Distinction" Program
Chippewa and Hilton Elementary Schools have been awarded the "School of Distinction" honor by the State Superintendent of Schools. The School of Distinction Program was introduced in 2005 as a component of the Schools of Promise Initiative. The program is designed to recognize schools in which a high percentage of ALL students, including students with disabilities, show outstanding performance. Hilton and Chippewa were nominated based on 2006-2007 statewide assessment data. The nomination process includes verification of data and a visit from Ohio Department of Education representatives.
High School Nominated for Blue Ribbon Award
The Ohio Department of Education recently informed the District that Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is one of only fourteen public school buildings in the entire state to be nominated for a Blue Ribbon School Award. The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are academically superior in their states.
The comprehensive application process is underway. The final application must be submitted by mid-February. The Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education will announce the award winners in September, 2008.
District Receives Financial Award

On December 12, Auditor of State Mary Taylor’s office, represented by Michelle J. Stys, Greater Cleveland Regional Liaison, presented the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District with the “Making Your Tax Dollars Count” award for the district’s fiscal year 2005 audit.

When presenting the award to Treasurer/CFO Karen Obratil, Superintendent Dr. Tom Diringer, Board President Alan Scheufler and Obratil’s fiscal staff, Stys stressed that fewer than five percent of all Ohio government agencies are eligible for this award. In fact, 415 agencies in northeastern Ohio applied for the award, but only 17 awards were granted.

The criteria for this award include:
The entity must complete and submit a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
There must be no findings or issues present in their most recent audit report.
There must be no other financial concerns involving the entity.
