State Champs!!

Wow, what a year!! At the State Championship Meet on Saturday, Nov 3, the Bees put the finishing touches on a remarkable season, that most runners can only dream about. The girls, who qualified for the State Meet for the third straight year, are the new 2007 State Champions! And the boys, returning to Columbus for the first time since 1991, finished fourth. This was the best season in school history, for both teams!

The third time was the charm for the girls, who finished seventh in 2005 and sixth in 2006. They edged Magnificat, the state's top-ranked team going into the meet, 115 to 120, to claim their place in Bees history. The Bees were led by Aly Dosen, who finished 7th in the team race at 18:54, with teammate Megan McAdams in 8th barely a tenth of a second later. Molly Jacobson was 13th (19:10), Rachel Paszko 33rd (19:47), Hannah Pulliam 54th (20:06), Benita Wu 75th (20:28), and Rebecca Powers 77th (20:32). Both Aly and Megan earned All-Ohio recognition.

Bees Boys State Cross Country Team. Left to right are Assistant Coach Louie Rundo, Justin Turner, Bryan Miller, Kevin Hanigan, Sal Caroniti, Brett McAdams, Ben Randall, Dave Jacobson, Shawn Weiler, Head Coach Bob Schank.

The boys team, ranked sixth in the state before the meet, beat two of the five teams ranked ahead of them to finish fourth, and were just five points away from third. Tremendous depth was again the key for the Bees, with just 25 seconds separating their top five finishers. The boys were led by Kevin Hanigan in 21st at 16:18, followed by Sal Caroniti about 1.5 seconds later in 23rd. Dave Jacobson was 31st (16:34), Brett McAdams 43rd (16:43), Bryan Miller 44th (16:43), Shawn Weiler 59th (16:56), and Ben Randall 102nd (17:39).
