Bee Athletic Boosters Minutes
February 7, 2005

Present at meeting: Jan Romance, Frank Pushpak, Judy and Steve Zamaria, Manuel and Ruth Saridakis, Joan Sonich, Joe Kosek, Karen Ryan, Larry Zgrabik, Doug Gieb, Bruce and Ellen Noggle, Bruce Trippet, Jane Bowditch, Jim and Joan Tricomi, Sharon Foster, Mark Wirkus, Charmagne Cimaglia, Denyse Sturgeon, Kan Kalinsky, Al Siebert, Cliff Eggleton.

Secretary's Report: A motion to accept the minutes of the Jan. 3, 2005 meeting was made and seconded. The minutes were accepted.

Membership Report: We have 2 new members since the last meeting. Jane hopes we can work on next year's membership strategy before the current school year ends. To date we have the following levels of memberships: 12 faculty, 25 gold, 53 platinum, 23 standard.

Treasurer's Report: As of Jan. 31, 2005, the balance of uncommitted funds is $23,176.74.

Committee Reports:

Silent Auction: Cliff Eggleton reported that we have at least as many items as last year. We do have a few new donors. Dollar-wise we are a little under what we had last year. We are still accepting donations. We may post a partial list of items on the web site so people have an idea of what will be available. Several ideas for grouping and presenting the items were discussed. Baseball, soccer, football, and wrestling will put together mulch packages. It was suggested that Cliff check with Sam's Club and Walmart for donations. Cliff also noted he is badly in need of sports tickets-ie. Indians, Cavs, Browns. For those tickets "off season" like Indians tickets, a commitment and a statement can be auctioned in lieu of tickets until the winner can contact the provider to settle on a date.

Reverse Raffle: As of tonight, very few tickets are still available. Lori needs volunteers for the tables and for selling the boards. Several people present volunteered. We will need different colored tickets for the boards. There was a discussion on how to get a corkboard made in order to post most of the donated gift certificates. According to Jim Tricomi, this will conserve room on the display tables for the gift baskets and make the certificates more visible. Joe Kosek said he would build the double-sided corkboard. The evening should sell out, but if it doesn't, the Big Board tickets will be available for sale the night of the event. Pulling the numbers should go faster this year. Ads are being sold for the program and are still available for sale. 40 ads are expected this year.

Team Rep Reports:

  • Girls Basketball - Girls basketball is 9-10 with 1 game left. They are 4th in the PC (8-8). They are seeded 6th in the districts and play Bedford at 6:30 on Feb 14. JV is 10-9. Wed. will be their last game. 9th grade is 5-11, they won their last 2 games.

  • Honeybees - PC competition will be held here on March 7. The girls have two more games.
  • Gymnastics - The team is undefeated. The team hosted an invitational in Jan. Two meets got canceled in Jan. due to the weather. New school and state records have been set this year. It's been a great season so far and the girls are looking forward to the state competition.
  • Swimming - Boys finished 6-2 for the season. Girls finished 7-1 for the season. Both teams won PC Heritage Division.
  • Hockey - Larry thanked BAB for their donation and continued support of the hockey program. The team ended the season with a 12-6-2 record. 5 seniors will be graduating. The team was not invited to join the GCHSHL next year so the plan at this time is to play an independent pure varsity schedule. Next year the team is projected to have 32 players rostered and full-fledged JV and varsity squads.

Allocation Requests:

8th grade boys basketball team will get T-shirts for their undefeated season.

Boys soccer is requesting 30 weather resistant jackets at $60 each.

Girls basketball is requesting a rebounding machine at a cost of $4800. Coach Zenir will come to the next meeting with more information.

Athletic Director Reports:

High School: Dan Kalinsky talked about upgrading the weight room. Several coaches have come up with a list of things that will benefit all sports. The kids really use the equipment a lot. The equipment is now 7 years old. The proposed list adds up to $7500 but a prioritized list would be submitted in the event the whole amount is not approved. One item highly recommended is a Power Runner, which is good for all sports. With this machine, there is no stress to the joints. More dumbbells and bikes are also needed. Dan also said we need to upgrade the banners in the gym since next year we will be joining the Southwest Conference. He would also like new banners for state championships, conference championships, etc. The PC dance festival will be March 7 here at BBHHS. March 9 is the sports reception. Sectionals start this Friday. There will be a pep rally Friday afternoon.

Old Stadium update: The city of Brecksville is involved with the school and boosters. A task force has been formed to look into improvements of the area. Mayor Hruby has been supportive.

Middle School: Wrestling is over, basketball in tournaments.

Other Business:

Joe Tartabini has the information on the tennis courts that he needs to meet with the mayors of both Brecksville and Broadview Heights. He is to meet with them in the near future.

Next meeting is March 7, 2005

Meeting adjourned 8:20 PM

Submitted by Ruth Saridakis

Allocations Approved:

Soccer: $1400 for rain jackets asking Coach Batista to consider using $400 of the soccer specific funds raised by soccer to supplement this approval for a total of $1800. This is suggested in order to purchase enough to inventory in various sizes. This would assure the items would match each other as the varsity squad sizing needs change from year to year and different sizes may be needed.

Weight Room Equipment: $6500 including enough for 2 power runners since this was a critical "Rehab" piece of equipment used by all athletes that incurred leg injuries in all sports.

Banners: Approval pending. Jim Tricomi is to get additional price quotes for Dan.

Basketball: Approval on the "Rebounder" still pending until more information can be provided by the coach.
