Treasurer's Report: We have approximately $50,000 dollars in unrestricted funds. We might want to think about taking the membership amount of approx. $25,000 and earmark it for capital improvements.

Reverse Raffle: Linda Hagen stated that ticket sales are going well. There are 4 tables left. She can be contacted at 546-3892 or at BeesRaffle@adelphia.net. Money for the tickets needs to be turned in by the next meeting on March 6. There has been good response so far to the letters that have been sent out. The program booklet is coming along. Anyone with additional suggestions for the silent auction please let the committee know.

Team Reps:

  • Girls Basketball - 7th grade is 4-0, 8th grade is undefeated. JV is 9-8, 6-5 in the conference. Varsity is 10-7, 7-4 in the conference, which puts them in 3rd place. Sectionals will be played at Solon. Our first game will be against Nordonia. Captain Becky Vano suffered a torn ACL in the game at Amherst and is out for the season.
  • Boys Basketball - JV is 9-6. Varsity 13-2. They play Fri. at home and Sat. away at Midpark.
  • Wrestling - The team is doing very well. They finished undefeated in duals. Two wrestlers (Kyle Lang and Pat Zamaria) finished undefeated in duals. The team is ranked 9th in the Plain Dealer. The SWC tournament will be held at Olmsted Falls this Sat. Varsity sectionals start Feb. 17-18 at Medina. The 8th grade gold team has had a good month. They took third place at their tournament this past weekend. Sunday Feb. 19 the high school will be hosting a middle school district tournament with 32 teams participating. Several people commented on how good the wrestling web site is.
  • Gymnastics - The girls are undefeated so far this year. At the Dominique Moceanu Invitational, the A squad came in 1st and the B squad came in 2nd. We hosted the SWC invitational. Magnificat will be here tomorrow. We've had 3 Plain Dealer players of the week. Sectional tournament will be on Feb. 18.
  • Swimming - The season just concluded. In the SWC championships, both the boys and the girls finished in 2nd place. Sectionals are this weekend in Akron.
  • Hockey - the last "Skate with the Bees" was outstanding. The team played Western Reserve Academy and lost 6-5 in overtime. A special thanks was given to the Pep band for being there. The last game of the season is this Fri. at the Q at 4PM. Tickets are $12 each. Varsity is 13-7-3. The State tournament draw is tomorrow. Games will be at Kent. JV is 1 or 2 games under .500. Several games have been broadcast on BEE TV. Thanks were also given to the Parents for Bee Hockey and Dan Kalinsky for getting the team into the White Division for next year. The hockey program has come a long way in a few years. Joe Kosek praised the dedicated parents of the players for building the program up so well. He commented on their determination and perseverance in making hockey not only happen for BBHS but also on the quality of the program. The team appreciates the support of the school, athletic department and BAB.
  • Bowling - The team is in 1st place. Division playoffs are coming up. Four bowlers have qualified for the Pepsi Scholarship Tournament. Bowling may become an official high school sport.
  • Cheerleading - Conference championship to be held on Feb. 16, 7PM at Avon Lake.

Allocation Requests: Wrestling T-shirts for their undefeated season.

Athletic Director Reports:

Dan Kalinsky commented on how well all of our winter sports teams are doing. President's Day Weekend will be a busy one at the high school. We will be hosting gymnastics, wrestling and sectional basketball play. He also thanked BAB for the banners that have been put up in the gym. Next year, conference champion banners will be added. There was a brief discussion on what to do with the old banners that were taken down. Suggestions included auctioning some off at the Silent Auction or hanging them in the auxiliary gym.

Other Business:

Joe apologized for the confusion over a recent fundraiser activity that went on for BAB benefit. We were able to raise $1000. An independent firm put together a coupon book of local businesses and sold it for us. Although the booklet itself seems to be a quality product, due to some miscommunication, not many people were aware of this project. Joe apologized for this. If this program is repeated, the vendor should make it clear that they are calling on behalf of the Boosters and be forthright in explaining that the proceeds are shared. The confusion came about because the Boosters do not directly market the books (the vendor does that for the Boosters) although the Boosters still share in the proceeds.

There will be a meeting this Fri. at 4PM at the Board of Education with the committee that is looking into installing artificial turf on the high school football field. This committee includes Dan Kalinsky, Joe Kosek, Doug Geib, Maria Schneider, Paul Cevasco, Steve Farnsworth and Sam Sidoti. This seems to be a better path to pursue than refurbishing the Old Stadium property. The maintenance cost on the high school field is $25,000-35,000 a year. This would be saved if artificial turf were put in. The project would need approx. $700,000. BAB can't possibly fund the whole project and the Athletic Boosters would be part of a complete community effort to accomplish this undertaking. We also need to balance our allocations in order to assure there are still plenty of funds to continue providing for the needs of all the teams. Other groups like the Band Boosters and Football Boosters and school district may be involved. We will soon be discussing a fundraiser that will generate a sizable amount of money.

Most of this year's officers will be moving on next year. We need to keep the momentum the group has built up to continue so please think about volunteering your time for next year. Nominations will be in May with elections in June.

Dan was asked if the Pep Rally scheduled to be held on Feb. 17th could be held before the wrestlers and gymnasts leave for their sectionals. There was also a suggestion to hold sports recognition during the day much like the academic recognition. Dan was asked if the Honeybees could perform more than once dance at halftime. There was a short discussion on teams getting home late on school nights from schools like Amherst and Wooster. Can these games be scheduled on Fri. or Sat. nights instead? The league is aware of this and is discussing scheduling the longest distance events on weekend nights as the first scheduling priority as much as possible.

Next meeting March 6, 2006, 7PM
