Bee Athletic Boosters Minutes
April 4, 2005
Jim Tricomi welcomed everyone. Joe Kosek could not be present at the meeting.
Present at meeting:
Cliff Eggleton, Charmagne Cimaglia, Dan Kalinsky, Lori Donner, Doug Geib, Ruth Saridakis, Londa Latimer, Kevin McPherson, Maria Schneider, Marcia Cline, Larry Zgrabik, Bruce Noggle, Mike Terry, David Schlabig, Charlie Towne, Jane Bowditch, Jim Tricomi.
Secretary's Report:
A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the March 7, 2005 meeting. The minutes were accepted.
Membership Report:
We have one more standard membership. Joe had asked at the March 7, 2005 meeting for a breakdown of the membership levels. The platinum level stayed the same, standard and gold memberships have dropped. A discussion followed about why after a few strong years, some decrease in numbers has occurred. We could use the team reps to disburse membership forms to the teams during the summer months. We could also e-mail the 80% of the members who gave us e-mail addresses with membership forms and snail mail the other 20%. Maria Schneider is to get an article placed in the alumni newsletter (The Pollen) about the boosters. Or a form can be given to Chuck Catalano of the alumni group to be mailed out with his information. It would also be good to speak at the MS sports reception this spring.
Treasurer's Report:
Doug Geib reported that most of the Reverse Raffle money is in. We netted $27,887. The amount of uncommitted funds is $40,000, the amount of committed funds is $14,000.
Committee Reports:
Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction:
Lori Donner and Cliff Eggleton both commented on the successful evening. There were approximately 20 no-shows (10 couples). A total of 212 tickets were sold. A few suggestions were made to improve the timing of the evening. Some other ideas were tossed around also. Joe Kosek sent his thanks to everyone.
Wrestling Club:
Kevin McPherson had fliers available for the upcoming Night at the Races to be held on Fri. May 6, 2005 at Anthony's Party Center. Tickets are $20. You can also buy a horse for $10.
Football Mulch:
The football players will again be selling mulch. The football parents have all been sent letters informing them about the program. Ads will be placed in both the Brecksville and Broadview Heights magazines.
Team Rep Reports:
- Baseball - The team lost 4 games on their trip south. Some games were canceled due to weather conditions.
- Girls Varsity Softball - The team also traveled south. They were 1-5 for the week.
The southern teams that our teams played were almost done with their seasons. Therefore they were in better form than our teams who hadn't been able to play yet.
- Girls Track - Girls track is doing well. They finished 1st and 2nd at two recent meets but lost at Hudson.
8th grade girls track-first meet is this Thursday.
- Boys Volleyball - Londa thanked us for the $300 allocation. There are 20 boys on the team this year. They came in third at Sat.'s exhibition. The season looks good for them.
Allocation Requests:
Hockey is requesting new jerseys for the varsity with the current jerseys being handed down to the JV team.
The equipment in the weight room needs to have new coverings for the seats and benches. Dan will look into prices.
John Mutch sent a very nice thank you letter for the allocation made to the baseball program.
Athletic Director Reports:
High School: Dan said that even though the baseball and softball teams did not win many games, it was still a good experience for the kids. Dan also remarked on joining the Southwest Conference next year. Some of the changes will include:
- There will be tournaments for all levels, i.e. 7th, 8th , 9th, JV and varsity.
- No gymnastics
- Competition will be comparable to what we have now
- Admission prices will be $6 and $3 at the HS and $3 and $1 at the MS
- The schools are very much like BBHHS
- The PC is breaking down
- The travel really won't be that bad.
Middle School: Maria said that there will be 2 girls basketball teams and 2 boys basketball teams next year. Some of the schools that originally said that they would have 2 teams are now down to one team. School levies in Berea and Midpark this spring will affect their programs. We currently have 100 girls out for track and 100 boys out for track. On May 18 we will be hosting a middle school track invitational for 32 teams.
Other Business:
We are still looking for someone to do some PR work in getting our sports news into the local papers and magazines. We need to push harder for space for our athletes of the week. Home Team Sports is currently sponsoring athlete of the week in the Sun.
Charlie Towne is working on a set of by-laws for the Boosters.
Comments were made on the condition of the track. The life span of our track is 8 years. Ours is now 5 years old. Repair work needs to be done. In a few years it may need to be resurfaced. The pits also need some repair work. The shot put area needs some adjustment. It would be nice to have an indoor area to practice pole vaulting.
