A motion to accept the minutes of the Sept. 12, 2005 meeting was made, seconded and approved.
Membership Report:
Charlie Towne reported for Jane Bowditch. We currently have 8 faculty, 22 standard, 34 gold and 78 platinum memberships for a total of 142 members and $24,170. There are 81 first time members this year. For all of last year, we had 115 total members and $17,300.
Treasurer's Report:
Joe Kosek reported for Doug Geib who could not be present. Last year we started off with $16,000 in unrestricted funds. At the end of the year we had $19,000 in unrestricted funds. Our current balance is $60,000 of which $22,000 is allocated to various sports. We spent $40,000 last year. We paid off the loan on the field house. Outstanding pledges on that project amount to $6200. We will try to collect on those outstanding amounts. The golf outing in August had a net of approximately $10,000. We currently have approximately $46,000 in unrestricted funds.
Committee Reports:
Golf outing: David Schlabig reported on the outing that was held in August at Sleepy Hollow. 81 golfers participated. There were 40 hole sponsors. The event netted a little under $10,500. David will still chair the golf side of the event next year. We may need more publicity. We will need volunteers to help David with hole sponsors, prize donations, mailings and phone calls. Joe Kosek will help advise. Bill Day volunteered to help David.
Reverse Raffle: We are still looking for someone to help co-chair the silent auction side of the event. Lori Donner is handling the reverse raffle side.
Team Reps:
Larry Cox is getting volunteers. He needs an updated e-mail list of members.
- Volleyball - Freshman 2-6, new coach is Jessica Swartz. JV 11-5, at the Sarah Nelson Tournament 1-2. 8th grade is undefeated, 7th grade 10-4.
- Golf - Sectionals are tomorrow. The boys are 13-6, 8-6 in the conference. Girls JV is 12-2. Bill Day suggested giving golf balls to the winners. Dan Kalinsky will do this from the athletic department.
- Soccer - Both girls and boys are doing well. Girls are playing tonight. Currently have only 1 loss. They are seeded #2 in the sectionals. Boys are #2 in the state. Rankings come out tomorrow. They are currently undefeated 11-0-2 and are seeded #1 in the sectionals. They have a lot of seniors but the underclassmen are doing well.
- Cross Country - Boys cross-country has come in 4th in most all of the meets. The times are improving. SWC tournament is here this Sat. 8th grade is undefeated except for 1 loss at Strongsville.

- Tennis - The girls are 18-4. JV is doing well. Sectionals start Thurs.
We still would like to find someone to act as a liaison between the boosters and the Sun Newspapers to get an athlete of the week in the paper. Ray Everett volunteered to do this with input from Dan Kalinsky and the coaches.
Allocation Requests:
Allocation requests are for things that will benefit our athletes for several years.
Coach Szakacs and Coach Svozil requested an indoor pole vault pit that would benefit both the high school and middle school. The 7th and 8th grades will be pole vaulting for the first time this year. The cost of the pit is roughly $3900. Mr. Wiswell has volunteered to help install it in the auxiliary gym that would lower the cost by $400. About 12-16 athletes would be using the pit. The track team may do a training clinic as a fundraiser. A rubber strip would add another $200. Total would then come to ~ $3700.
Last month the wrestlers requested $8000 for wall mats in the gym. These are needed for safety at the Holiday Wrestling Tournament as well as other athletic events and during phys ed classes. We need to explore sharing the cost with the school board. We also would like to find out from the phys ed teachers if there have been any problems with students running into the walls.
Wrestling Coach Haverdill is requesting 25 bags for the wrestlers, a new scale and an upper body machine.
The bowling team has a 20-week season. The students pay for their uniforms, balls and transportation. The team is requesting help with the lane fee costs.
A suggestion was made to have signs to direct the new schools in our conference to the Old Stadium field since it is not easy to find. A discussion followed on why JV sports are played at Old Stadium. Dan Kalinsky said the grass on the high school field would not hold up if all varsity, JV and freshman teams used it. Artificial turf at the high school may be an option somewhere in the future.
Athletic Director Reports:
High School:
Dan Kalinsky said the SWC cross-country championships will be here on Sat. Estimates are being prepared for the Old Stadium renovation. Meetings have been going on between the city of Brecksville and the school district. Items under discussion are: new track, new fencing, new locker building, repaving and new stands. The city has purchased the bus garage. The school district is willing to give up the Old Stadium property if the city improves the area and commits to the school district using the property as it does now for years to come. The locker building may not be something the city is willing to fully fund. Several ideas were discussed on different ways to pay for a locker building. We are waiting for the city to tell us what they are willing to do in exchange for the land. The city has also purchased 100 acres off Oakes Road from the city of Cleveland.
Dan asked if the Boosters would be willing to run the concession stand for the winter season. If not, he will offer it to one or two teams. There are 50-60 events and someone would have to co-ordinate the staffing. Dan buys all the supplies.
Dan suggested that our 50/50 raffle volunteers get to the football field about 6:30 PM for those people coming early. The band boosters sell the programs and they need to get there around 6:30 also.
Dan asked for comments on our first month or so in the SWC. These included:
- Competition has been good although many miss the old rivalries
- Avon Lake had inadequate seating for the visiting team.
- Amherst is too long of a drive for the volleyball girls on a school night. They didn't get home until 10:45 at night. The games did not start on time.
- The middle school has not seen any benefits at all.
Middle School:
Maria Schneider explained what she was able to purchase with the money from the Boosters: 2 ball carts, 7-man sled, new scale for wrestling, pole vaulting equipment for track. Parents donated some funds for badly needed game pants for 7th and 8th grade football and submitted a request for boosters to pay for the balance. Another $500 donation was given for a chute. She also said they recently purchased a portable scale for middle school wrestling and offered its use for the wrestling tournament.
Other Business:
A bylaw committee has been formed. If any individual sport is using our tax ID number, we need to have an idea of how that money is being spent. The date for Lake Erie Captains Game is April 15, 2006. The committed working on this is Larry Zgrabic, Bruce Noggle, and Karen Hale.
