- Membership Report
Our new memberships are doing very well and have already generated $42,195 in total ytd revenue. Jane reported that we have 14 more members that have joined the boosters since our last meeting.
- Team Reports
All team representatives gave their reports for the new season.
Congratulations to the boys golf team on winning the Southwest Conference.
- Athletic Department Report
Dan reviewed the Homecoming activities that will take place this weekend.
The water line problem at Old Stadium will be fixed soon.
There was a brief discussion about our football stadium capacity not being large enough for major events.
The gymnastics team is looking for someone who could fabricate a cart for the spring floor and also needs a 12 ft. X 12 ft. area to store it.
- Allocation Requests
The High School track needs to be re-surfaced (last done about 8 - 9 years ago). The School District has allocated $50,000 to re-coat the track. However, Dave Dosen reported that a longer lasting upgrade to the track surface will require about $100,000. There is a group of volunteers trying to obtain more donations to help fund the upgrade. An allocation request for $10,000 was discussed but not voted on at this meeting. We will discuss the request again later when we know more details on other commitments.
Although no formal allocation request was submitted, there was a general discussion regarding maintenance or re-surfacing needs for our tennis courts. Following the discussions on the track re-surfacing allocation request, several members voiced their concerns on how best to proceed in securing attention and funding for the tennis courts. Suggestions were made to seek parental involvement to stimulate interest and support funding of needed improvements. This approach would be similar to what was done to start working on the allocation request that was submitted for re-surfacing of our track.
The wresting team provided more details on its allocation request for $1,000 to cover one-half the cost of a Sports Psychologist consulting program. The board disapproved this request, as the cost does not provide any tangible, re-usable items.
- BEE Athletic Boosters Projects
There was a brief discussion regarding the reverse raffle and other potential options such as a Night at the Races or Texas Hold 'Em party. There is a follow-up meeting scheduled for October 15 at the High School Media Center.
- New Business
Texas Hold 'Em - Phil is organizing an event on October 20 and needs players that are over 21 years old and volunteers to help sell tickets.
Discounted Lake Erie Monster tickets are available from Bill Miko who can be reached at 440.667.4571 for more details.
We briefly discussed problems arising from falsely endorsed solicitors contacting Booster members trying to promote programs and support that may not be in our best interest. All solicitations should be scrutinized closely before making any committements or approvals for them.
- Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
The next BEE Athletic Boosters meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007 at the High School Media Center.
