Bee Athletic Boosters Minutes
September 13, 2004

President Joe Kosek welcomed everyone. With so many new faces in attendance, everyone introduced themselves. Joe stated that our mission is to help all of our student athletes. The BAB have made major capitol improvements over the last few years and we hope to continue to do that.

Present at meeting: Joe Kosek, Mike Terry, Laura Mikut, Ruth Ann Resparc, Maria Schneider, Tom Valenti, Jesse Shuster, Barb Michael, Sharon Foster, Joan Sonich, Bruce and Ellen Noggle, Ray Everett, Mark Wirkus, Lori Donner, Henry Chlanda, Ginny Folmer, Maria Cline, Linda Hagen, Elaine Collins, Kim Walkos, Dan Kalinsky, Ruth Saridakis, Jim and Joan Tricomi, Jane Bowditch, Charlie Towne, Belinda Lipcsik, Brian Trippet, Bill Miko

Secretary's Report: Mike Terry moved that we forgo the reading of the minutes of the June 7, 2004 meeting. Ellen Noggle seconded. The minutes were approved.

Membership Report: Jane Bowditch reported that to date we have 18 gold, 45 platinum and 9 standard memberships. Several suggestions to increase membership were tossed around.

  1. Hand membership forms to team parents
  2. Ads ran in the PSO calendar and the football program. Send form to the HS Herald and the MS Banner. Jane will do this.
  3. Work with the Alumni Association to get more members.
  4. Have team reps use the team rosters to distribute membership forms.
  5. Joe would like to get rosters from each coach.
  6. At pre-season team meetings, have a booster rep there to hand out membership forms.
  7. Maria Schneider is to provide Boosters with a list of all fall sports participants for a mailing to the Middle School.

Treasurer's Report: Doug Geib was not present. Joe stated that we are still waiting for the last wave of pledges on the field house.

Golf Outing: The golf outing made $10,500. Attendance was up from 60 golfers last year to 100 this year. The goal for next year is to raise revenue by $3000-5000. Next year's date will be Aug. 17, 2005. It will be held at Sleepy Hollow.

Team Reps: The team reps are a vital source of communication between BAB and the coaches and the team parents. They should encourage other parents to join and be involved with BAB. Joe would also like them to have each team sign a ball or team photo to be auctioned off at the Reverse Raffle.

It would be nice to have someone step up to submit information to the local newspapers about our outstanding student athletes.

Athletic Director Reports:

High School: Dan Kalinsky reported that Fri. is Homecoming. There will be a parade from Hilton School up to the High School. Floats will be parked in the upper parking lot. There will be no bonfire this year. The school will be receiving the PC All Sports Award and also the OHASA Harold Myer award for sportsmanship. Trophies will be presented at the Oct. 8 home football game.

Middle School: Maria Schneider and Tom Valenti are splitting the Athletic Director duties. Maria will be handling much of the paper work and Tom will be handling the web site and other duties. Admission fees charged at the MS events are required by the PC and are used to pay officials. Maria would like to do some fund raising for the MS athletic department. When we join the Southwest Conference there will be 2 volleyball teams and 2 basketball teams in each grade level.

Allocation Requests:

Tennis: Coach Jesse Shuster stated that the tennis courts have had nothing done to them in 20 years. The surfaces need to be redone. The large number of girls that tried out this season shows an increased interest in tennis. It would be nice to add courts. Discussion followed with pros and cons of patching versus complete resurfacing. There are rumors that Brecksville wants to close the courts behind City Hall increasing demand on the school courts. The high school courts are almost split evenly so they are located in both cities. Given that residents of both cities quite often use the courts for no charge, Dan Kalinsky suggested the parents from the tennis team begin a mission to investigate if both cities could share in the cost of refurbishing before we look to Boosters or the Board of Education.

Cheerleading: The surface available at Old Stadium for the 7th, 8th, freshmen, and JV squads to cheer on is not very good. It is uneven and hard for the girls to do tumbling on. The coaches would like to look into putting some sort of surface down that would be safer for them. Maria Schneider will contact AJ Ganim to see if there is some product that can be used.

Swimming and Diving: Brian Trippet stated that the Brecksville Rec. Center needs a new diving board at a cost of $2500. The parents of the swimmers have already raised $200. Dan Kalinsky stated the school pays a fee to the City of Brecksville for the use of the Rec pool. The fee runs approx. 6-7k per year and therefore he will discuss the diving board issue with the Rec. Dept. He stated that safe and effective equipment should be provided by the city. The HS or Boosters should not have to replace defective or worn Rec. Dept. equipment.

New Business:

Bylaws: Several examples are being looked into.

Reverse Raffle: Jim Tricomi stated that this is our biggest fundraiser. The hall is booked and the band is booked. We need someone to take over the organizing of the event from Diane Pollock. Start selling your team tables now.

Meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM
