- Treasurer's Report
Doug Geib gave his final report before Mike Wiesbarth takes over as our new treasurer. Doug recapped the major part of our fund raising was complete in May and reviewed the year-ending report as of July 31, 2007.
Since our new membership revenues for this year are doing well, Doug has already made the $25,000 payment to the Turf Project that was not due until September 2007. Our next payment is not due until August 31, 2008. Our current available balance of uncommitted funds is $35,406.75.
- Membership Report
Our new memberships are doing very well and have already generated $41,060 in total ytd revenue vs. last year's entire revenue of $32,565.
Jane reported the following membership status for 2007/2008:
- New members - 128
- Lost members through graduation - 78
- Returning members - 14
- Total members to date = 254 vs. 187 last year
- Team Reports
All team representatives gave their reports for the new season.
Notable recognition was given to Jeremy Johnson who finished Fifth in the nation and became our First All-American high school wrestler. Congratulations to Jeremy!
- Athletic Department Report
Dan updated the group on this year's new coaching assignments:
Rob Klein will be the new Volleyball coach with Dan Irvin as his assistant.
Sue King is the new girls Golf coach with Greg Roderick as her assistant.
Steve Miholic is the new boys Basketball coach.
Mike Schmidt is the new swimming coach as well as an assistant football coach.
Dan expressed thanks to all volunteers who helped work at the Cross Country Meet. The new turf has been installed and is being used a lot by various teams and clubs. Dan reported that the field was used from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. on September 7, 2007 which is even more use than expected.
Maria Schneider reported that the 7th grade football team is scheduled to play on the new turf on September 25th and the 8th grade football team will play on it on October 9th. The Sara Glosik invitational volleyball tournament is scheduled for September 22nd. Allison Stuckey broke the school record in Cross Country.
- Allocation Requests
The Bowling team requested $600 to help pay for transportation and game fees. They also volunteered to help work the concession stands.
The swim team asked for $2,500 to pay for 60 warm-up suits, which is approximately one-half the total cost of $90 each. We will review the swim team memberships and encourage more team support before approving this request.
There was also a brief discussion about uniforms and extra optional apparel for the various teams. The school provides official team uniforms and the extra optional can be requested through the Boosters. This apparel must be used year after year for the team players and not given to the players to keep.
Sun Newspapers - Mark wants to start a Committee to nominate Players of the Week to put into the Sun Newspapers. There will be no cost for this recognition.
Dom DiPasqua will no longer be writing articles for the Sun Newspapers. RuthAnn has three volunteers willing to help write and submit articles for the paper.
Gymnastics Spring Floor - Need to get more information to determine costs, storage, setup requirements, and possible outside rentals to help pay for it.
- BEE Athletic Boosters Projects
Golf Outing - The golf outing raised about $2,000 more funds than last year's results (about $17,000). We had a record turnout of 35 teams, 140 golfers, and 48 sponsors. Much of the increase is due to the new shotgun start format, which increased the per-player cost by about $15. We also had a women's foursome for the first time in the history of the outing. Joe Kosek and Dave Schlabig have already volunteered to chair next year's outing and will need help.
Concession Stands - We're off to a great start and it's another benefit to have the JV Soccer games on the new turf prior to the varsity game. AnnMarie Ringen has been a great help. At our first varsity football game we made $6,000 which was our best sales night ever. Huddle will help on Elementary Night on Friday, September 21st.
Reverse Raffle - Attendance has been declining the last few years and suggestions for other possible fundraisers were discussed. Other options included a Night at the Races or a Dinner Dance where attendees can expect to have some fun without quite as much effort as the Reverse Raffle requires. Discussions will continue next month.
- New Business
Mark Becka brought a picture of a costume for an official "BEE" mascot that would cost $900.
Mark Weaver asked if any other teams might want to participate in obtaining senior yard signs. The Hockey team only has nine seniors and they would need to order 25 signs to keep the cost per sign at a reasonable level.
- Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
The next BEE Athletic Boosters meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the High School Media Center.
